Planning for Mundell memorial begins Stacey Mulick, The News Tribune 12/28/09
Planning began in earnest Tuesday for a public memorial honoring the life and sacrifice of slain Pierce County sheriff’s deputy Kent Mundell.

A group of 50 representatives from throughout the county set up inside the county’s Emergency Operations Center to plan the event. A few details have been decided so far.

The memorial for the 44-year-old married father will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday the Tacoma Dome. A procession of emergency vehicles will go from the Puyallup Fairgounds to the dome, starting at 10 a.m….. Read More

Four police officers shot dead at coffee shop near Parkland TNT 11/29/09
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department has reported that four police officers have been shot dead in an ambush at the Forza Coffee shop at 11401 on South Steele Street near Parkland Sunday morning. Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer could not say what agency the officers were from. The officers were sitting in the coffee shop with their computers out when the shooter came in. Auditor Jan Shabro confirmed that’s the estimated cost of postage for mailing this November’s absentee ballot. The reason? The ballot includes two cards: one for the lone county ranked choice voting race (for auditor) and one for everything else.
